Samsung KS800D 4K TV

Type: LED Resolution: 4k Refresh Rate: 120 Hz Screen Size: 49″ – 65″
This TV has been discontinued and was replaced by the Samsung MU8000

With this TV, and others from their SUHD line, Samsung actually found a way to make 4K better than ever before.

Unlike some of the other TVs with the SUHD designation, the KS800D television is a flat panel. If you are looking for a curved screen, you should definitely look at a couple of the other Samsung SUHD televisions. For me, though, flat panel was the way to go. It is very thin with a sleek design, so it looks great just sitting in my living room.

Of course, I didn’t want this TV to just sit there. I knew from other reviews that the SUHD TVs put out great picture quality, so I couldn’t wait to turn this one on. Once I did, I was not disappointed.

Review

I expected great images and pictures since the Samsung KS800D is 4K, and what I got was beyond my initial expectations. The picture is very bright and vibrant. The colors look great and even dark scenes are better than before. It doesn’t really matter if the scene on the screen is bright or dark, I was able to see the smallest details with great clarity.

All the engineering and computer wizardry isn’t important, nor do I understand it, but it is worth pointing out that Samsung uses Quantum Dot technology and supports High Dynamic Range, or HDR. Both of these technologies are used to create the incredible picture and are what makes Samsung UHD televisions stand out from other brands.

It is also worth pointing out that not everyone is delivering content to match 4K resolution. At least, not yet anyway. The Samsung KS800D has that covered, too. With an upscaling engine inside the TV, it is able to analyze the video to maximize contrast and colors, producing near-4K quality. This is a really nice feature and it makes everything I watched look great, regardless of the video source or its resolution.

The other aspect of the KS800D that I really like is Smart TV. The Smart TV features were redesigned by Samsung and the resulting product is something I think a lot of people are going to like.

First off, I can play games without the need for a gaming console. Samsung and PlayStation teamed up to allow access to games in the Cloud. This is a really nice touch and frees up some clutter around the TV since there isn’t a need for a big console.

Believe it or not, the remote is actually pretty cool, too. The remote can control all aspects of the television and works pretty much like a mouse. The remote even recognizes voice commands, so I can control aspects of the TV without lifting a finger.

It is also really easy to connect external devices to the TV. Once I downloaded the free Samsung app, I was able to quickly connect my phone and tablet. Now, I can watch TV content on one of my mobile devices or wirelessly stream content from a mobile device to the TV.

Hopefully you can tell that I think this TV has a lot to offer. The picture quality is better than I expected, thanks to some advanced technology and nifty features. The TV is really easy to use, including all the online content available once the TV is connected to the Internet. This TV is definitely the total package!

Conclusion

The KS800D is a flat panel Ultra High Def television and it produces exceptional picture quality, looks very visually appealing and has some very powerful Smart TV features.

The great picture quality is courtesy of 4K resolution, an upscaling engine for non-4K content, Quantum Dot technology and support for High Dynamic Range. All of these come together to produce a picture that is far better than other 4K TVs.

The Smart TV features are also great. Voice recognition, streaming content from mobile devices and playing games without a console are just a few of the things you can do with this TV.
